When Kitaria Fables from Twin Hearts landed on my knees, I was absolutely shocked that this game is somehow completely past under my radar. At first glance and looking at the trailer, it seems to have the perfect mix of RPG adventure, craftsmanship and agricultural simulation. And I was happy to see that we just received this in addition to a decent story and a ton of absolutely adorable and heartbreaking characters with whom interacting! All in this game seems so healthy, but how much does it work together?
Kitaria Fables follows Nyanza von Whiskers (Nyan abbreviated) and macaron, soldiers sent from the capital to the small West Paw Village. Their duty is to protect residents from once docile creatures that seem to be much more aggressive. During their adventure, they fall on a mysterious book that puts them on the path of magic and they are soon responsible for finding four old relics that would have all the answers, while fulfilling the villagers' quests and living from the earth . .
There is a lot to love in this game, but let's start with agriculture. While Kitaria will not ask you to take care of a multitude of animals (I mean, the animals here are people, so it would be embarrassing), but we will focus only on crop harvesting. It is not so in-depth that other agricultural simulations like Stardew Valley or the Harvest Moon series, you will not have to worry about things like trying to get a better quality of seeds with fertilizer, etc. Just plow the earth, planting the seeds and harvest when finished. The agricultural system is simple but always satisfactory, especially when you can sell everything at a time and see all these wonderful cementimes of paw! It's an excellent source of income and I was happy to see that there was no individual endurance bar, so it allows players to grow as! Or until it makes black anyway.
As an action event, you run everywhere using your weapons and (possibly) magic to slaughter your enemies. You will know when the enemies are about to hit because of their animations, but they will also give you a visible attack window giving players time to move away. Once you have made the bow or several magic spheres, you can customize your attack and skill equipment, linked to your trigger buttons, which will help you combine a soft attack dam! Because to honestly see Nyanza throwing fireballs and glads of ice will never be amazing for me. However, whenever I played the game in Dock or Portable mode, I noticed Framerate declines when the fights became too intense or if there were too many bad guys above you.
The world of Canoidara has so charming beauty and there is a lot to love in this game from the start. The 3D models and 2D portraits capture so well the cute creatures and without forgetting that you can equip objects and accessories to customize Nyan as you wish. The landscape is really lovely, that you explore the caves, walked through the forest or crossed snow-capped terrain. You can see that there was a lot of work that was put in everything, especially when the days turn into nights and that everything shines in a wonderful dark atmosphere. The beautiful orchestral background music always seems to correspond to the framework in which our characters find, supplementing the entire experience as a whole.
Have I mentioned that there is also a local cooperative so that you and a friend can work together to grind better and faster?
Kitaria is a wonderful game but it does not go without defects. As you explore the world, you will need to cross a bunch of areas that are divided into small areas. We would have really benefited from a mini-card to guide us in the right direction, especially when you try to find specific objects. You have a map of the global world that helps you guide you, but there is still the assumption work you need to do to go in the right direction. And if you go to the wrong direction, you will have to wait for your game to load when you enter each zone. The loading time itself is not the worst I have seen, but the fact that it must take care before and after each card, leaving or entering the buildings, it becomes a little too after a little.
Whether you decide to focus more on the action adventure or more on agriculture, or both, time management can become a bit difficult. The days sometimes seem both long and too short, especially the days you decide to share your day between the two tasks. I would have preferred to have more time myself, sometimes taking care of my garden takes 4 to 5 hours of my day, which did not leave me so much time to do what I needed in the world. And when there is a ton of grinding that you have to do to upgrade or create new objects, you really need as much time as possible!
For this last issue, I really do not know if it's a problem with me or if it's because of the game, but every time I play Kitaria moored, I can only play for about 30 to 40 minutes Before receiving a message saying that the console is too hot and must be stopped. Now, my switch is about 5 years old but I never had this problem before. I did other tests, playing in portable mode was quite correct and at no time did he need to be stopped. I then went from the front and I tested Dark Souls moored and I also broadcast a 4-hour broadcast on Staddew Valley and I still never had this problem of stopping my switch. I tried to play Kitaria several times with my moored console, even shortly before publishing this review, and I always get the same warning message overheating and stopping my switch.
Aside from this last issue, I love absolutely all about this game. If you are a fan of games like Harvest Moon, Startdew Valley and Rune Factory, you will certainly like this title. It has a decent balance between agriculture and adventure, a solid story and the most adorable characters you ever see. Since the game is quite open, you can really go to your pace, you do not need to do one of the quest quest right away if you want to opt for agriculture and Picking instead. Or if you think you can get away with limited income, you can generally give up agriculture and get you directly into the adventure! Overall, Kitaria Fables is a healthy and relaxed moment.
