10 years later, we are always preparing to die - Happy birthday Dark Souls
Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers was a Latin jazz, spirit jazz and R&B team created in 1959 by timbales gamer Henry Pucho Brown. Of the lots of artists that functioned in his team, Chick Corea is among them. In 1973 he disbanded the group and also concentrated extra on standard Latin music. In the 1990s, his music got rate of interest from the British Acid Jazz scene, and also the re-formed Latin Soul Brothers do today.
COG considers: the 10th anniversary of Dark Souls
To the extent that video games have changed my life - and they did it - Dark Souls and his brothers from software were one of the most important change agents. If we believe Steam, I spent about 4,000 hours of my life that is quickly decreasing to play the Trilogy Dark Souls and Sekiro, and at least 800 to 1,000 overtime to play in Bloodborne and Demon s Souls on PlayStation. For challenged mathematics, it s been 200 days of 24 hours over the last 10 years, because today marks the tenth anniversary of the release of Dark Souls. My trip souls started with Demon s Souls, a game I bought as IMPORTATION OF JAPAN after having heard about the Podcast Gamers with Jobs.
I played all the Dark Souls games in all their iterations and tried dozens of mods created by the players, and I almost bought a PS5 only for the purpose of playing the remill of Demon s Souls, which did not not at all disappointed. I am not even a very good player of Souls. I have never done a speed race or a challenge run, but especially with Dark Souls, I played so many times that I can easily go to Anor Londo without fatal incident. Provided that I can go beyond the whores of archers, I can usually finish the back of the game without death.
I learned patience, perseverance, the power of cooperation and altruism playing Dark Souls. Well, it may be an exaggeration, but the games have certainly strengthened these muscles. I exuded from hard-win victories on bosses, which, as Souls players know, is a very particular feeling of accomplishment that almost no other game offers. I have been annoyed against invaders and incompetent invocations, but also grateful to the best players for their help and advice. And I have a rule: whenever I use an invocation, I reverse it several times with other players. Yes, holiness is just around the corner, no thanks is required.
Praise the sun
Although it has not fully created the support, Dark Souls has certainly helped popularize Let s Play videos on YouTube and Streamers on Twitch, and I spent many hours looking at Jeff Green, hilarious and inept, the Meticulous kay plays and the vatividya encyclopedic (among many others), giving me a real feeling of community around the game I loved. And while I wrote and already commented on the games 10 years ago, Dark Souls and all the franchise continued to contextualize (for me) action RPGs and game mechanisms in general. There is a little critical voice that always asks, is it as good as Dark Souls? Or transmissible by blood?
Ten years ago, we certainly did not predict that a game of dark action with opaque traditions, average graphics and seemingly punitive fights would become one of the most influential games of all time, creating its Own sub-genus ( Soulslikes ) that has become the default model for third-person action games. This is an exception now when a game does not include a mechanical from Dark Souls, Bloodborne or Sekiro. A game with vaporous and mystical traditions: Soulslike. A game with an endurance bar and a fight depending on the parade or dodging and the roulade: Oh, it s definitely an Soullike. A difficult game, a game with enormous imposing bosses or a dead loop / rebirth or firefighters or healing consumables: just another clone from Dark Souls. Of course, from Software has not invented any of these mechanics. Dark Souls s particular genius was to be the right play at the right time, a perfect vehicle for the streaming and youtube community, and of course brilliantly combine existing game elements, including the first titles of Fromsoft itself. The influence of Dark Souls shows no signs of decrease. Deathloop actually invasions of players similar to Souls.
If Dark Souls have pushed me to improve my skills, I think that did it for millions of players, at least indirectly, because the developers inspired by more and more popular souls games and have added mechanisms and raised the level of challenge. Often, they have confused the supposed difficulty of Dark Souls and simply inserted an unfair, punitive or inept fighter. The souls games are not difficult because they are built on a very specific loop of learning, practice and mastery, and more and more developers are starting to integrate this subtle distinction.
Ten years in the world of culture or entertainment, it s nothing, but in the field of video games, it s a big period of time. Few those who deny that over the last decade, video games have not only assumed a dominant economic engine position, but have become at the heart of many of our entertainment lives. The games continue to become more nuanced vehicles for narrative, more epic, richer in emotions and more resonant, more polite mechanically and even reflecting our tumultuous world. Undeniably, Dark Souls and its latest payments and variants can attribute at least some of these changes.
